Musings From A Musical Director:

Species Profile: Musical Director.

Congratulations to all those who have made it to UCL for their first year as well as to those who have survived their last year at UCL! Everyone in the society is really looking forward to meeting keen new faces. Before you attend your first MT events, however, be warned. You may encounter a highly enigmatic and poorly studied species, commonly known as the Musical Director (MD). This species usually surrounds itself with keyboards, talented band members, and scores, while rambling about harmonies, key signatures and obscure percussion instruments. (Did you know that the Broadway production of The Lion King has 24 musicians including 5 percussion parts??) While this species may sometimes seem to live in their own musical world, rest assured that they are friendly and peaceful (as long as you learn your harmonies!) and want to turn any production they’re involved in into a magical musical experience that showcases your awesome performances on stage. If you feel like you may even be ready to evolve into this species yourself, speak to one of the committee members and they will point you towards the right events and people to make your dream of conducting a Bloomsbury show reality!
