Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need membership for fresher events?

All our events and socials that happen during the first few weeks of term (unless specified otherwise), will be part of our ‘Give It A Go!’ sessions, so do not require paid membership.

What do I need membership for?

We have three different types of membership: Full, band and remote.

FULL: Our full membership (£18), gives you access to all our online and in-person activities, such as socials, workshops, galas, events and more. You will need full membership if you are participating in any of our shows.

BAND: Our band membership (£6) is for our instrumental members who just play in the pit orchestra exclusively, without anything else. Band members will need to pay for full membership if they want to attend our other events & socials!

Taster: Our taster membership (free) is for all our online events and accessible to everyone- it includes our online socials and workshops and we are carrying over a lot of our online workshop series from last year. So no matter where you are in the world, you will absolutely be able to get involved with Musical Theatre Society!

I’ve never done Musical Theatre before, can I still join?

Absolutely! The society is open and welcoming to everyone, regardless of your ability or experience! We offer lots of beginner-based events including our non-audition choir and band, which are a great way to try out the genre in a very relaxed setting. We will also offer music theory classes and ‘back-to-basic’ workshops for members who want to start performing. We also have lots of non-musical based socials and events, from bowling to yoga and theatre trips, there will be something for you to try!

I love Musical Theatre but don’t want to perform- what’s available for me?

We offer a wide variety of activities for everyone interested in the genre. Last year, we held multiple workshops that ranged from producing to costume design. This year we will be extending this programme further with similar in-person events and working with industry professionals (from stage managers to musical directors) and leading institutions such as Mountview, to provide you with a wide variety of experiences and networking. You are also encouraged to apply to direct, produce and MD small and large-scale shows for the society; keep an eye on our social media for more information on this soon!

Who can I speak to about getting more information?

The committee are always around to answer any question you may have! Whether its MT or UCL related, we are always here for you! You can find our information on our social media pages, or just email us at su-musicaltheatre@ucl.ac.uk.
